St Davids (Tyddewi) is a city, parish and community in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Lying on the River Alun on St Davids Peninsula, it is Britain’s smallest city, and was the final resting place of Saint David, Wales’s patron saint. St Davids was given city status in the 16th century due to the presence of St David’s Cathedral but lost this in 1888. City status was restored in 1994 at the request of Queen Elizabeth II.
St Davids has become a hugely popular tourist destination and a hot spot for keen walkers, and water sport enthusiasts. With an entire coastline around St Davids, which is part of the Pembrokeshire national parks, it draws thousands of people down each year all eager to explore the vast coastline, local wildlife, and the beaches. As well as these stunning attractions, The Cathedral and its neighbouring Bishops palace are also massive draws for anyone who is interested in natural history and attracts large numbers of visitors daily throughout the year.
St Davids offers some lovely shopping opportunities and places to eat. There are plenty of traditional welsh shops, and farmer’s markets, as well as large name brands which can keep visitors busy. Whether you’re looking for fresh fish, locally sourced products, or good fresh tasting food the city of St.Davids has it all. Pubs and Restaurants such as The Bishops, The Farmers and St Davids Cross Hotel are our favourites! Offering great options, with plenty of locally sourced products, and local Ales to offer. Or if you looking for a quick snack to take to the beaches, call into our new Pasty Shop, Losh's Pasties (named after Rhys' nickname!) Offering fresh pasties and coffees.
Further up the coast on the Northside of St Davids Penusiula is the fishing harbour of Porthgain, which is home to the Famous Sloop Inn, one of our other favourite pubs to visit.
As well as its stunning coastline, the area has some fantastic beaches, harbours and offshore islands which are a must for anyone visiting the area. Whitesands beach attracts thousands of tourists every year, whether it be for surfing or just a family day out, it’s a fanatic little spot where you can truly relax and soak up the sun. Fancy some fishing? Why not pop down to one of our local harbours, such as Porthclais where you can do a spot of fishing or crabbing whilst watching all the boats come in and out of the harbour.
One experience which truly does reflect how beautiful and special the area is, is by visiting one of our offshore Islands. You can join us with our own company, Voyages of Discovery where we offer Voyages to Ramsey, Skomer and Grassholm Islands as well as the Bishops & Clerks. We have regularly signings of Atlantic Grey Seals, Harbour Porsipses, Common & Risso's Dolphins, Minke Whales and thousands of nesting sea birds including Puffins!
